Terms of Service
Effective May 2026. Last updated May 2026.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the website at ayyappakenya.org, the devotee portal at devotee.ayyappakenya.org, and the Sri Ayyappa Temple mobile app on iOS and Android (collectively, the "Services") operated by Sri Ayyappa Seva Samaj, Nairobi (the "Temple", "we", or "us"). By creating an account or using the Services you agree to these Terms.
1. Who can use the Services
You must be at least 18 years old to hold a devotee account. Family members under 18 can appear in an adult's family tree so the priest can include them in sankalpam recitation, but only an adult with their own email address can book poojas, donate or hold a portal login.
You agree to provide accurate information about yourself and your family members when you sign up and to keep your profile current. Impersonation or knowingly false information may result in suspension or deletion of your account.
2. Your account
Sign-in to the Services is by one-time code (OTP) sent to your verified email address — there is no password to lose. You are responsible for keeping access to the email associated with your account secure.
If you suspect your account has been accessed by someone else, contact us at [email protected] immediately and we will suspend the account and reset the email binding.
3. Bookings and donations
Poojas. When you book a pooja you are reserving a time slot for the priest to perform the sankalpam in your name (or in the name of the family members you list). Bookings are confirmed only when payment is received and a receipt number is issued.
Payments. Payments are taken out of band— we do not process card payments through the Services. Money flows via the temple's M-Pesa paybill, bank transfer, cheque or cash. The Services record that a payment was made and against which booking or donation; the temple's treasurer reconciles each payment manually and marks the booking confirmed.
Donations.Donations to the temple's charitable and seva funds are voluntary contributions to a religious organisation. They are non-refundable except where required by Kenyan law. A receipt is issued once the payment is reconciled.
ATM membership. Ayyappa Temple Maintenance (ATM) patron memberships entitle you to one free Sarvamangala pooja per calendar year once all twelve months of that year are paid up. Membership tiers, dues, and benefits are described on the website and may be updated by the committee from time to time.
Cancellations and reschedules. You can cancel a booking from the app or portal until the priest has marked it "conducted". Once conducted the booking is final. For reschedules please contact the temple directly at [email protected] as far ahead as possible.
Refunds. Refunds are at the discretion of the temple committee. As a general rule we refund where the temple has not yet rendered the service — e.g. a cancelled booking before the pooja date — and decline refunds for completed services or completed donations.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- upload content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene or infringes anyone's rights;
- impersonate another person, including using a relative's name or contact details without their permission;
- attempt to circumvent the rate limits, automate sign-ins, or probe the Services for vulnerabilities (responsible disclosure to [email protected] is welcomed);
- use the Services to scrape devotee data, donor records, or any temple-internal information.
We reserve the right to suspend or delete accounts that engage in these behaviours.
5. Content you submit
You retain ownership of everything you submit — profile photo, family details, donation messages, feedback. You grant the temple a non-exclusive licence to store, display and process this content as needed to run the Services and the temple's accounting. We do not sell, rent, or share your content with any third party for marketing. See our Privacy Policy for the data we collect and how we use it.
6. Religious context
The Services facilitate Hindu religious observances at Sri Ayyappa Temple Nairobi. We make no representation about the spiritual efficacy of any specific pooja or donation; that is between you and the divine. The temple priest performs poojas according to tradition; details such as nakshatra and gotra are used during recitation and have no other purpose.
7. Service availability
We aim to keep the Services available 24×7 but we offer no uptime guarantee. Festivals, planned maintenance, and the occasional power or internet outage in Nairobi may cause downtime. Critical temple announcements are also sent by SMS / WhatsApp when the Services are unavailable.
8. Termination
You may close your account at any time via Profile → "Delete my account" in the mobile app or portal — see our Account Deletion page.
We may suspend or terminate an account if it violates these Terms, or if required by law. Where lawful we will try to give you notice before doing so. Booking and donation records linked to a terminated account are retained in anonymised form for the temple's financial records.
9. Disclaimers
The Services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by Kenyan law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Kenyan law, the temple's aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the Services shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to the temple in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damages of any kind.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. The courts in Nairobi shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Services. Where you reside outside Kenya, mandatory consumer-protection rights of your jurisdiction continue to apply.
12. Changes to these Terms
We'll post any update on this page and bump the "Last updated" date. Material changes will be announced through an in-app notification before they take effect. Continued use of the Services after a change means you accept the new Terms.
